Single Vision Lenses

Polycarbonate ($38.00 complete with frame)

Polycarbonate can actually be called a space-age product. Before it was ever used for eyeglass lenses, it played in important role in the exploration of space. Astronaut face shields and windows in the space shuttle are just 2 examples of polycarbonate’s contribution to space travel. These lenses are substantially thinner, lighter and impact resistant than standard plastic lenses. EyeglassDirect.com utilizes polycarbonate lenses that are manufactured with scratch-resistant and ultra-violet coatings at no additional charge to you.

Due to its high protective quality, polycarbonate is of substantial benefit when making children’s and active adult’s eyeglasses. It is also utilized in the eyeglasses of persons with a lazy or blind eye.

Prescription recommendations: (up to +4.00/-6.00)

1.67 Super Thin High-Index Lenses ($85.00 complete with frame)

Our Super Thin High Index Lenses, with a refractive index of 1.67, are substantially thinner and lighter than CR39 plastic and polycarbonate lenses all other that Opticians and Optometrists may sell as high index lens. They are manufactured with an aspheric (flatter) design as well as UV and scratch resistant coatings.

1.67 Super Thin High Index Lenses are highly recommended for people who wear larger, rimless eyeglasses frames or who have smaller pupillary distances (i.e. less than 62 mm).

Prescription recommendation: (over +3.00/-3.00)

CR39 Plastic ($28.00 Complete with frame)

Our standard prescription eyeglasses are fabricated using the highest grade optical quality plastic lenses. Standard plastic, with its high grade optical qualities, can also be tinted darker than polycarbonate. Although standard plastic is not manufactured with UV and scratch resistant coatings, we add these coatings at no additional cost to you.

Prescription recommendation: (+3.00/-4.00)

Next Generation™ Transitions® Lenses ($85.00 Complete with frame)

Next Generation™ Transitions® Lenses contain light-sensitive molecules that darken and lighten according to the intensity of ultraviolet light. Recent advances in Transitions® technology ensure that they perform consistently across a wide range of temperatures and climates.

The greater the intensity of the UV rays, the darker the lens becomes. The moment the UV rays are no longer present, the lens begins to fade back to almost clear. Transitions® Lenses do not change while driving in a car. All Transitions® lenses come with 100% UV protection.

Prescription recommendation: (+3.00 to -6.00)

Polycarbonate Transitions® Lenses ($125.00 Complete with frame)

Polycarbonate lenses are substantially thinner, lighter and impact resistant than standard plastic lenses. EyeglassDirect.com utilizes polycarbonate lenses that are manufactured with resilient scratch-resistant and ultra-violet coatings at no additional charge to you.

Polarized Plastic Sunglass Lenses ($85.00 Complete with frame)

A polarized filter is produced by stretching a thin sheet of polyvinyl alcohol to align the molecular components into parallel rows. The material is then passed through a solution of iodine. The iodine molecules alight themselves along these parallel rows. In a polarized lens, the rows are oriented vertically in order to maximally reduce the horizontally reflected light.

Polarized lenses are high recommended for people who enjoy skiing, boating, fishing, and many other outdoor activities. They also make great driving sunglasses (especially at dusk).

Polarized lenses are manufactured with UV and scratch resistant.

Prescription recommendation: (+3.00 to -6.00).
